Barbel

Terms of use and disclaimer

Last updated: 13 October 2026

This page explains what Barbel is for, what it does not replace and where our responsibility ends. By using the app or the website, or by creating an account, you accept these terms.

1. Informational nature

Barbel is an orientation tool for anglers: map of waters, fish pages, rules, weather and forecasts, diary. It is not an official source and has no legal value.

2. It does not replace the regulations and the permit

The app does not replace fishing laws, the managers' regulations (such as ČRS, MRS, SRZ), permit conditions, local ordinances and on-site notices. The valid text is always the official one of the water's manager.

3. Data and sources

Waters, tracks and rules come from public registers and documents of the managers and from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL licence); forecasts come from external weather services. They may be incomplete, inaccurate or out of date: the track of a water on the map is indicative and does not define its official boundaries.

4. Check before you fish

Before every outing you must check the rules, minimum sizes, closed seasons, catch limits and the permit valid for that water. Sizes and closures change from year to year and from water to water.

5. Offline use

Data saved on your phone may be older than the official data. We do not guarantee it is up to date when you are offline.

6. Weather, forecasts and bite index

Forecasts and the bite index are estimates and guarantee neither the weather nor the fishing. Do not rely on them alone for decisions about safety.

7. Personal safety

Fishing takes place near water and can be dangerous: storms, wind, floods, ice, slippery banks, night. You judge the conditions on site: the app cannot do it for you. Respect private property and protected areas.

8. Account

The account is optional and free. To create it you need a valid email address, a username and a password. You must give us true details, choose a username that is not offensive and does not violate others' rights, and keep your password safe: you are responsible for what happens with your account. If you suspect unauthorised access, change your password and write to us.

We may refuse or close accounts created with false details, used for abuse or to get around the service's protections (for example with automated programs), or that break these terms. You can delete your account at any time from the app's Profile.

9. Sync, backup and the web area

Sync saves a copy of your data online; the barbel.app website shows it read-only, as it was at the latest sync (it does not update in real time). Changes are made in the app. The copy is a help, not a guarantee: the service may have interruptions or space limits, and the plan determines how many copies and photos we keep. Keep a copy of data you care about: you can download it from the Profile.

Photos on the server are reduced versions of the originals, which stay on your phone.

10. Community

The community will arrive with later updates. When it exists, you will be responsible for what you publish and must not publish unlawful or offensive content or content that violates others' rights, nor private spots without the consent of those entitled. We may remove content and suspend accounts that break these rules.

11. Purchases

Barbel Pro and country maps are bought through the App Store or Google Play, under their terms. A map bought once stays yours with no subscription; Barbel Pro includes all maps. Purchases belong to your Apple or Google account: deleting the Barbel account does not delete them or cancel subscriptions, which are managed in the store. Refunds and cancellations are handled by the store where you bought.

12. Licence to use

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the app and the website for personal purposes. You may not copy their data in bulk, resell it or use it to build a competing service.

13. Photos and third-party content

Photos of species and guides belong to third-party authors, under the licences shown next to each image (for example Wikimedia Commons and iNaturalist). They remain the property of their authors.

14. Availability of the service

We try to keep Barbel always available, but we cannot guarantee it: we may change, limit or suspend features, including for maintenance or because of the providers we use.

15. Exclusion of liability

To the extent permitted by law, Barbel and its owner are not liable for fines, permit revocation, damages, data loss, injuries or other harm arising from use of the app or from relying on its information. Liability that the law does not allow to be excluded remains.

16. User responsibility

You are responsible for following the fishing rules, for judging the situation on site and for how you behave towards fish, the environment, other anglers and water owners.

17. Governing law

The law of the Czech Republic applies, without prejudice to the mandatory rights your country's law gives you as a consumer.

18. Changes

We may update these terms when Barbel's features change. The current version is always at barbel.app/terms.
